When to discuss money in an interview

When to discuss money in an interview

Everyone seems to be an expert when it comes to interviews and all the experts seems to have a different opinion of when to discuss money in an interview.

This post is going to talk about this, from a recruiters perspective. Recently I read an article on Inc (Inc – Interview cancelled after asking about money), where a candidate had her interview cancelled because she asked about money. Apparently the company felt that her asking was not inline with their values.

What a load of **********.

If anyone out there is so arrogant that they believe that the majority people come to work for anything other than money, then they need to take a good hard look at themselves in the mirror. Yes, its important to have a great culture and build a place that people love, however, how many employees would do what they do everyday for free …………………. very few!

So, as a recruiter, when to discuss money in an interview …….. at the very beginning.

If the person you are talking to wants $100,000 and your role is paying $70,000, then you have a fairly large obstacle you need to overcome, and if you cannot overcome it, then why waste each others time?

Always bring it up at the very beginning, that way everyone is on the same page.
