Why do people connect with you on LinkedIn?
Seriously, what is their purpose, what are they chasing or are they chasing anything at all?
Recently I ran a test. I sent 15 invitations out to random people I don’t know however they are people I probably should know. I sent 15 to females and 15 to males. I sent 2 lots, one from my account and the other from a false account with hardly any connections and no photo.
The Results
- From my personal account (this photo and completed profile)
- 80% of the females accepted my unsolicited invitation
- 30% of these people looked at my profile.
- 60% of the males accepted my unsolicited invitation
- 80% of them looked at my profile.
From the false account (no photo, basic profile, few connections)
- 32% of the females accepted my unsolicited invitation
- 95% of these people looked at my profile.
- 15% of the males accepted my unsolicited invitation
- 82% of them looked at the profile.
Findings.
I suppose you can read into this in several ways, here are a couple of take always for me
- You are likely to get people accepting your invitations if you have a complete profile and picture
- Women are more accepting than men
- Men are more suspicious/curious than women as they looked at the profile first
- There is a massive drop in acceptance if you don’t complete your profile.
Next Steps
I will be following up the people that accepted my invitations in the next month to find out why they accepted and more to the point, why did they or not, have a look at the profile.
All you have to do is make sure your LinkedIn Profile is complete and you have a picture.
