Ask Steve – EP 7 – Why are placements so hard now?
Hello everybody! Steve here from Recruitment School and welcome to another episode of Ask Steve.
Today Cathy has asked. Hi Steve! Why the placements so hard to make at the moment?
Now, Cathy is in Sydney. She’s in Accounting support/Business support that area somewhere and she’s been in the industry for a couple years and no coming up three years probably. She’s been around long enough to actually understand how it works and Cathy hopefully what I’ll be able to do today is answer this question for you.
So let’s take a helicopter view of the market. You’ll find that there’s a lot of organizations that are struggling at the moment in the Recruitment Industry. The tech market has basically collapsed, construction is is slowing right down, things are starting to happen. Now this is a by product of our beautiful or the beautiful things called interest rates. The interest rates have been floating around there for a couple years and they’re starting to go up but now what they’re starting to do is to take hold.tThey’re starting to take hold. What that basically means Cathy is if I’m a business and where I used to employ a payroll officer or whoever it is in a heartbeat. Where I’m at now is I’m second guessing it I’m thinking about whether I actually need them or not and I’m starting to save some money right? So I’m starting to sit back as okay. We’ve got three or four people in the accounting team. Can we just do without this person for a little while?Just a three reason why is because we’re gonna save ourselves $80k-$90,000 a year whatever the number is and that can help us in other parts of the business.
So that’s what’s actually happening. So you’ll find that the actual market has dropped off the reason for that is everything’s becoming a little bit tighter and companies are now sitting back saying. Do I really need this person or not? So what I would be doing for if I were you, Cathy is trying to find candidates now because what that means is if not a many jobs in the market now that means it is gonna be more candidates and now is the time to start focusing on candidates and floating them out. That’s your key.
